Case studies

What was captured, and what the model showed.

Each project below has its 3D model to explore, and the measurements and notes Media4You recorded on it.

Construction · Site inspectionJanuary 2026

A wet construction site, measured and logged in one visit.

Nineteen photographs, captured in under a minute and a half, became a 3D model of the whole site. The piles were measured for volume, and each hazard and job still to do was pinned to its place on the model with a severity rating.

  • 19photographs
  • 1 min 22 scapture time
  • 5,322 m²area covered
  • 2.8 millionpoints in the 3D model

Recorded on the model

  • Five piles measured for volume, from 10 m³ to 333 m³: the largest a 383 m² pile of mixed dirt and rubble.
  • Metal poles left partly underwater where the ground doesn't drain, needing a large vehicle once it dries.
  • A damaged trailer stuck in the mud, and a large manhole cover below site level.
  • The holding pond full of water, with about 80 m³ of material from it stored on site.
  • The site entrance measured at 5.72 m wide.
  • Harris fencing and plastic and metal rubbish to clear before work continues.
Construction monitoring

The dirt store for the temporary holding channel: 932 m², about 268 m³.

Mixed dirt and rubble to remove: 383 m², about 333 m³.

Agriculture · Field surveySeptember 2026

Drought damage mapped across an 8.8-hectare field.

242 photographs, captured in under five minutes with the DJI Matrice 4T, produced a 3D model, an elevation map and a VARI map of the field. Bare ground, dry spots and dead areas were then pinned on the model and rated by severity.

  • 242photographs
  • 4 min 36 scapture time
  • 8.8 haarea covered (21.8 acres)
  • 42.8 millionpoints in the 3D model

Recorded on the model

  • A 5,218 m² area of bare ground after the summer drought, where cattle can't graze.
  • Eight more dead areas, dry spots and patches of bare ground, each rated by severity.
  • A VARI map (a vegetation index from ordinary colour images) showing how the grass varies across the field.
  • An elevation map of the ground across the whole survey.

Property · Holiday cottageDecember 2024

A holiday cottage, measured from its 3D model.

449 photographs, captured in just over half an hour, built a detailed 3D model of the cottage and its grounds. The wall height, the extension roof, the patio and the driveway were then measured straight from the model.

  • 449photographs
  • 33 mincapture time
  • 1,653 m²area covered
  • 11.3 millionpoints in the 3D model

Recorded on the model

  • Wall height: 5.05 m.
  • Extension roof: 26.5 m², with slopes of up to 44.5°.
  • Patio: 34.8 m², 32.6 m around.
  • Driveway width: 3.51 m.

Construction · Barn buildNovember 2025

A barn site measured from twelve photographs.

Twelve photographs, captured in under two minutes, gave a measurable 3D model of the plot: the barn's footprint and driveway, the boundary lines, the earth to move, and what else on site would affect the work.

  • 12photographs
  • 1 min 44 scapture time
  • 4,229 m²area covered
  • 1.6 millionpoints in the 3D model

Recorded on the model

  • Three mounds of excess earth: 109 m³, 162 m³ and 471 m³.
  • Building footprint: 391 m², 87.5 m around.
  • Driveway: 185 m².
  • Boundary lines of 83.3 m and 67.6 m, with 9 m of height change along the longer one.
  • A farm trailer and a cultivator noted as temporarily stored on site.
  • The neighbouring house flagged at the highest severity: it will be affected by construction noise.
Stockpile measuring

The largest mound of excess earth: 498 m², about 471 m³.

The barn's footprint, marked out on the model: 391 m².

A boundary line measured along the plot: 83.3 m.

The neighbouring house, flagged for construction noise.
